Recommended Lux Levels for Hotels

The table below shows recommended lighting levels for the main areas of a hotel, based on BS EN 12464-1 (light and lighting of work places). Guest and hospitality spaces are also designed for atmosphere, not lux alone. Our lighting designers use these values when producing your free photometric design.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about LED lighting for your hotel led lights.

Why choose LED & Power for hotel lighting solutions?

We have years of experience supplying and designing commercial and hospitality lighting across the UK, and we understand that hotels need lighting to do two jobs at once, create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for guests and run efficiently behind the scenes. We specify premium fittings with warm colour temperatures and high colour rendering for guest areas, and efficient, hard-wearing fittings for back of house, all planned with full lux and layout calculations. You also get a free lighting design, trade pricing and expert support from enquiry to installation.

What are the benefits of upgrading hotel lighting to LEDs?

Upgrading to LED gives hotels lower energy bills, less maintenance and better light quality, all at once. Guest areas benefit from warm, flattering, dimmable light that sets the right mood, while back of house gains bright, efficient, long-lasting fittings. LED also cuts the disruption of failed lamps in occupied rooms and public spaces, works with dimming and scene controls, and reaches full brightness instantly. The result is a better guest experience and a more efficient operation.

What hotel LED lighting products does LED & Power offer?

We offer a full range for hotels, decorative pendants for reception, restaurants and bars, low-glare dimmable downlights for guest rooms and corridors, panels for conference and meeting rooms, battens and bulkheads for back of house and stairwells, and floodlights for facades and car parks. Fittings come in warm colour temperatures with high CRI for guest spaces and efficient neutral options for working areas. We help you match the right fitting to each part of the hotel.

Can LED lighting help hotels reduce energy costs?

Yes, significantly. LED uses up to 80% less energy than halogen or fluorescent lighting, and hotels light many areas around the clock, from corridors and receptions to exteriors, so the savings are substantial. Adding dimming, presence detection and scene controls cuts consumption further, dropping light levels in quiet corridors or out of hours. For most hotels the investment pays back within a few years, then keeps saving.

What areas of a hotel can benefit from LED lighting?

Every area. Reception and lobbies gain warm, welcoming light, restaurants and bars get atmosphere with flattering high-CRI fittings, and guest rooms benefit from comfortable, dimmable lighting. Corridors, stairwells, conference rooms, gyms, kitchens, back of house and car parks all benefit too, each with the right fitting for the task. We design the whole hotel as one scheme so it looks consistent and runs efficiently.

How long do hotel LED lights typically last?

Quality LED fittings last 50,000 to 100,000 hours, which for most hotels means 10 years or more before output drops significantly. That far exceeds halogen and fluorescent, which need frequent changing, an added cost and disruption in guest rooms and public areas. Longer life means fewer replacements, less maintenance and a consistent look across the hotel.
