The table below shows recommended lighting levels for the main areas of a car park, based on BS 5489-1 for outdoor and road lighting and BS EN 12464-1 for covered and multi-storey parking. Our lighting designers use these values when producing your free photometric design.

Source: BS 5489-1 (Code of practice for the design of road lighting) for outdoor areas and BS EN 12464-1 for covered and multi-storey parking. Outdoor areas use the Glare Rating (GR) metric, while covered areas use Unified Glare Rating (UGR). Entry and ramp transition zones are lit brighter by day to let drivers’ eyes adjust, and dim down at night. Security and CCTV areas may call for higher or cooler light. Can LED lighting help reduce running costs?

Do LED car park lights require a lot of maintenance?
