Recommended Lux Levels for Breweries & Distilleries

The table below shows recommended lighting levels for the main areas of a brewery or distillery, based on BS EN 12464-1 (light and lighting of workplaces). Hazardous area fittings must also be certified for their DSEAR zone classification. Our lighting designers use these values when producing your free photometric design.

Areas where flammable vapour, gas or dust may be present must be classified under DSEAR and fitted with ATEX-certified explosion-proof luminaires suited to the zone, gas group and temperature class. Production and washdown areas need sealed IP65 or higher fittings. Quality control benefits from a high colour rendering index, while visitor areas suit warmer, lower-glare light.
