Switching to LED can cut warehouse lighting energy costs by up to 80% against metal halide or fluorescent, and adding motion sensors, dimming, and daylight controls saves more still in aisles that are not always in use. For a large warehouse running long hours, that often means thousands of pounds a year, with the upfront investment typically recovered within two to three years. The best warehouse lighting is usually LED high bay fittings for open floors, with linear high bays down racking aisles because their beam shape pushes light between the racks and onto shelf faces. Battens suit mezzanines and back of house, and IP-rated fittings cover cold stores and loading bays. Sensor-ready, high-efficiency fittings around 5000K give bright, even light for safe, accurate work. The right mix depends on your ceiling height and racking layout, which we design around.
Most modern warehouses use LED high bays on open floors and linear high bays in racking aisles, replacing older metal halide or fluorescent fittings. Typical light levels sit around 100 to 150 lux in storage and racking, 200 lux in continuously manned areas, and 300 lux in packing and dispatch. Sensors and zoning are common, so light is only at full output where and when it is needed.
LED warehouse lighting uses far less energy, lasts much longer and needs less maintenance than traditional fittings, which is a real advantage on high roofs where access is difficult. It gives instant, bright, even light for safe movement and accurate picking, works well with motion sensors to cut running costs, and comes in IP-rated options for cold stores and loading bays. Better light also improves CCTV clarity and workplace safety.
Very little. Quality LED fittings last 50,000 to 100,000 hours, often 10 years or more, and rarely fail suddenly the way older lamps do, so there is far less need for costly access equipment at height. Maintenance is usually limited to occasional cleaning and periodic checks. Emergency lighting does still need scheduled testing to stay compliant.
