Why is lighting so important in a home?
Whilst it can often be dismissed when it comes to interior design, lighting in the home has a bigger impact than first recognised!
Lighting has both biological and physical effects that impact the health and wellbeing of humans. In terms of human biology, good lighting can help to stabilise your circadian rhythm and contribute to a good nights sleep. Also, psychologically, good lighting is known to have impacts on mood, reducing depression and increasing cognitive performance.
When planning lighting throughout your home, you want lighting that benefits yourself, the appearance of your home, and you want to ensure this lighting is functional for where it is placed. For example, you do not want the same lighting placed in a bedroom as you would a bathroom. In the bedroom you will probably want warm, cosy lighting that is relaxing and helps your sleeping; whilst in the bathroom you need lighting that is watertight and well suited to the surroundings.
Through the use of different colours and brightness, as well as the actual lighting structure, lighting can be used to create a specific atmosphere throughout a whole home; and selecting the right lighting for each room and function is crucial.
