Common questions
Everything you need to know about investing in industrial LED lighting for your facility.
UK commercial lighting must meet workplace standards, including the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and BS EN 12464-1, which set minimum lighting levels for safe, comfortable working. Energy performance falls under Building Regulations Part L, so efficient LED fittings help you stay compliant, and emergency lighting is covered by BS 5266. Our designs are produced with these standards in mind.
Quality commercial LED lighting typically lasts 50,000 to 100,000 hours, often 10 years or more under normal use. That far exceeds fluorescent or halogen fittings, which usually need replacing every one to two years. Longer life means fewer replacements and much lower maintenance over time.
Commercial LED lighting needs little maintenance beyond occasional cleaning of lenses and diffusers to keep output at its best. We recommend periodic checks of fittings and drivers, though LEDs rarely fail suddenly the way traditional bulbs do. Emergency lighting does need scheduled testing to stay compliant.
Commercial LED lighting is used across offices, retail stores, schools, healthcare settings, hotels, car parks and public buildings. High bay and low bay fittings suit large open spaces, panel lights and downlights work well in offices and retail, and battens cover corridors and back of house. The right fitting depends on the space and the task.
LED commercial lighting cuts energy use by up to 80% compared with traditional sources, while lasting far longer and needing less maintenance. It also delivers brighter, more consistent light and instant switch-on, which improves safety and productivity. Low-glare and dimmable options add comfort and further savings.
Commercial LED lighting costs vary by fitting type, output and quantity, with individual fittings ranging from around £20 to over £200. The higher upfront cost is usually offset within a couple of years through lower energy and maintenance bills. It depends on the space. Offices typically need 300 to 500 lux, while warehouses and industrial areas often require 150 to 300 lux. As a guide, high bay fittings commonly range from 10,000 to 30,000 lumens to light large areas effectively. We confirm the right levels for each area as part of your design.
Yes, much of our commercial LED lighting is available in dimmable versions compatible with standard systems such as DALI and 1-10V. Dimmable fittings let you control light levels, save energy and meet different task requirements across the day. Tell us your setup, and we will recommend compatible fittings and controls.
